Mission: To educate and empower our communities in the prevention of substance abuse and to embrace the families affected by this crisis
For February we will be raising funds to be donated to Connecticut Parent Connection. CT Parent Connection is a Nonprofit that my family and I hold very dear to our hearts. February happens to be both my parent's Birthday Months so as a way to celebrate I have chosen to support Parent Connection.
What is your purpose?
To educate and empower the community in the prevention of substance abuse and to embrace families in crisis.
What do you offer?
Education in the schools, communities and support for families whose loved ones are struggling with substance use disorder.
How long have you been around as a charity/organization? And how did you get started? Originally began in 1993 to help families whose children were abusing drugs. We were responsible for many changes in the Newtown School system. In 2003, we had 13 substance related deaths in the surrounding areas and so we became a 503 (c) 3 and began holding community forums, education for our doctors and nurses regarding opioids, presentations in the schools on subjects such as substance abuse, bullying, vaping. parenting and many more topics.
What are the current challenges that you are facing?
The opioid crisis has been an issue for the last couple of years. In addition, many of our young people are binge drinking. Isolation is responsible for our youth to turn to drinking and drugs.
How can people help?
We need to ban together and look out for one another. "It takes a village to raise a child" which is so true. Instead of people being judgmental, we need to reach out to one another and be a part of the change
